Who we are
Shifa Network has been around since 2003. We initially began as a social drop-in group for women who were living with long term mental health issues and had no where to turn for help. It wasn’t long until we realised that its service users had more unmet needs and needed more than just drop-in support.
After carrying out an informal survey and consultation with our users, we started offering life-long learning opportunities and courses such as English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). This helped women regain their confidence and self-esteem to better deal with the difficulties they were facing. We have since come a long way and now offer a range of services including peer support groups, educational short courses, creative and physical activities, one to one support, drop-in support and signposting advice. The continued significant demand for our services is testament to the real need for specialised support to meet the needs of these communities.
We are grateful to everyone that has supported our journey from our funders, partners and donors – we couldn’t have achieved all that we have without their support.
Our aims and purpose
Shifa Network’s purpose is to empower Asian women with mental and emotional health issues to integrate into mainstream society with improved self-confidence and raised self-esteem. It provides a safe and secure place where women can socialise and access support without feeling stigmatized. Shifa also supports local immigrant women suffering from domestic abuse, anxiety and depression.
Asian Women’s Wellbeing
This is a welcoming social environment where women feel safe and can make friends with other women who live locally. Encouraging a safe and friendly environment, we empower women by helping them build the best version of themselves, giving them the tools they need to live well in a new society.
We have worked hard to build a relaxing environment to allow women to feel safe. We achieve this through support and socialisation with understanding women.
